Make your own reusable tissues

Make your own reusable tissues

This is a simple way to save trees and money! The idea of using a tree to blow my nose just doesn’t sit well with me. Cutting down a majestic being and grinding it up, pulping, bleaching and mashing it into tissues that will be used and thrown away… no thanks! There is another way, and it’s simple and cheap.

Bandana for cutting into cloth tissues

Head on down to your local thrift store, buy a couple bandanas or soft cotton scarves, wash them and cut them into tissue-sized squares. Use, wash and reuse. That’s it!

This is a super easy way to save trees and money. You not only help save trees from being made into tissues, you avoid the production costs, shipping containers, fuel and packaging that go into getting a commercial box of tissues to you. And here’s a gift idea: find funny or fancy cloths to make tissue sets for your sniffly friends and family members! Use the share buttons below to inspire others to do the same!

i like using a bandana when i go into the backcountry – i nickname it my ‘pee bandana’. carrying one of these eliminates the need for extra toilet paper. The bandana can be rinsed in a creek daily and hung on your pack to dry.
