We’ve continued working on Bite Me Not, trying for a formula that lasts longer than an hour on the skin. During this ongoing research we learned about “oil of lemon eucalyptus,” a powerful insect deterrent derived from Eucalyptus citriodora oil. Our new new Bite Me Not contains this compound as the active ingredient. The chemical name for oil of lemon eucalyptus is p-Menthane-3,8-diol (PMD for short). PMD is derived by “aging” the essential oil so that it stays on the skin longer. We add vanillin to slow the evaporation rate, along with isopropyl alcohol for a light feel and spreadability, organic castor oil for moisture and glide, and essential oils for aroma and extra bug-away power. The scent of our new Bite Me Not is a warm & fruity mix of lemon-eucalyptus and vanilla. Smell great and keep the bugs away!
Unlike DEET, Bite Me Not doesn’t absorb into the bloodstream. It stays on the skin and slowly evaporates. The vanillin in Bite Me Not is derived from wood, not from petroleum. Although it’s more costly to produce, we believe plant-based vanillin is more sustainable than vanillin derived from fossil fuels.
How to use Bite Me Not: Shake bottle and spray on exposed skin, and on clothing if desired. Spread across skin surfaces with hands. Apply to the face with hands, and avoid eyes and mouth.
